Major Equipment

Our major research resources include equipment, library materials and specimens. Marine biology holdings in the University Library include about 3,000 books in Chinese, 5,000 in foreign languages, 15 Chinese journals and 50 foreign journals. We have access to the national library network and holdings of other major libraries. The Institute's library is now being established, with over 500 book titles and over 10 journals. Individual laboratories also have excellent reference and specimen collections.

Major institute equipment includes the following: small motor boat for nearshore investigations, remote operated vehicle (ROV), diving and underwater photography equipment (still, close-up and video), computer and image processing systems (including laser imagery), elemental analyzer (C,H,N), atomic absorption spectrophotometer, gas chromatograph, HPLC (high pressure liquid chromatograph), GC/MS, transmission electron microscope, scanning electron microscope, scanning transmission electron microscope, spcitter, microtome, ion evaporator, critical point dryer, light microscope, stereomicroscope, dark room equipments, many kinds of water quality testing apparatus, respirometer, electrophoresis apparatus, liquid scintillation spectrophotometer, gamma counter, ultracold freezer, refrigerated ultra-centrifuge, current chambers, culture chambers marine automatic recorder, fluorescence microscope, underwater sonar equipment.
